@ntnwwnet It's not dumb, it's poor and the offices where you go to get the ID aren't even open 7 days a week, which means that people would have to take off work in order to get one. What's more, there's precisely no evidence that having such an ID, or not, influences the election when it's not an explicit requirement to vote.

Around here, you don't even have to go in person to watch, they have webcams set up to watch everything that goes on in the rooms being used 24 hours a day so that nobody can slip in late at night for a bit of elections fraud without risking people being up late watching.

@petergerdes1094 I think that on paper, it should be possible to set up an electronic ballot so that the voters can verify that the vote was tabulated correctly without the polling workers knowing whose ballot was counted. Which isn't currently possible due to the way that all the identifying information is removed before the ballots are counted. But, there are so many issues that I wouldn't expect online voting to happen any time soon.
