This is why it's best to have the car doors locked while driving and not unlocking them while there's some mentally unstable person in the area.

It's unclear why the ticket was even written on the basis of an unreliable witness without the officer actually witnessing the alleged infraction.

TBH, if somebody opened my door like that, I'd assume that the intention was battery and react accordingly. Who opens the driver's door like that who isn't trying to car jack the driver?

It isn't anywhere near that bad here, but there's a bunch of hills and it's pretty common to see cyclists riding in traffic up the hill. They'll go like 3mph tops holding up traffic when there's a sidewalk that they're legally permitted to use within literally feet of the road.

@P.C.27 It's beyond me how there wasn't at least enough to charge the cyclist for a misdemeanor other than the disorderly. There's clear assault and battery in the contact, then there's filing a false police report and I'm sure there is some sort of charges that could have been brought in terms of opening the door in order to try to prevent the teen from leaving the scene.

I'm surprised that they didn't hit him with a felony for any of this. You can't prevent people from leaving so that you can call the cops on them. Especially, if they haven't committed any of the crimes that the local laws recognize as being a reasonable basis for a citizen's arrest or shop keepers privilege.

@Terabit3 Yep, it's unclear to me why he was let off the hook for with a disorderly conduct charge when there's a bunch of other charges that apply.

@ryurineko Which is a miscarriage of justice, don't see how any of what the cyclist did doesn't constitute a felony, or at least a misdemeanor for unlawfully preventing the teen from leaving the area.
