That may have been what he was told, but AFAICT, the only one of those that actually was going on, was invisibility and even that is not really accurate. During that time period, radar was in its infancy and they were trying to find ways of making things invisible to it. And, honestly, that explains most of it, the other ones were probably just things that people not directly involved in the projects were saying, or that was being spread to try and figure out where potential leaks were coming from.

They definitely were working on making things invisible to radar, to not be working on that at the time would have been crazy. There's little reason to make a ship invisible, as they're already pretty easy to camouflage with sufficient lighting. Radar is both a bit trickier and a bit more important in general. I do think that those were either naturally occurring rumors when there's a lack of official information, or deliberately planted to identify where leaks were coming from if they developed.

To be fair, they probably were pursuing invisibility from radar, which we know because it's publicly known that there are stealth vehicles officially acknowledged by the government now. And, I believe some of them are now old enough to be in museums. I'm not aware of any that use electromagnetism the way they were experimenting with at the time, but they may have figured that out more recently. And that's usually the case, the gear we hear about is usually either already obsolete or just made up to try and bluff other countries into wasting resources trying to counter something that doesn't exist and may not even be possible.

That would all be consistent with trying to use electro-magnetism as a shield against radar imaging. The fusing into the hull is rather unlikely, but I could definitely see something like that happening if they were unfortunate enough to be standing next to a short. You probably could get a bit of fusing, just not where somebody was outright halfway in with the ship around them. ' That being said, I do think that the fusing bit didn't happen, the psychiatric issues and memory loss would be consistent with being exposed to strong magnetic fields potentially. But, most of it was probably exaggerated to try and keep people asking the wrong questions until late enough that things leaking wasn't as much of an issue.

It didn't. It's like the Roswell UFO, the conspiracy theory is just a cover for what actually happened and it gained enough traction that even after the need for secrecy was gone, it stuck in people's imagination. Roswell was basically just a weather balloon that had been repurposed for use floating over the USSR with cameras to spy on the Russians. In this case, from what I remember, it was an electromagnetic experiment involved with trying to hide ships from radar. I have no doubts that people think they saw those things, but exposure to strong magnetic fields does cause neurological issues thatcould easily explain that.
