  1. Yes, there are ways of making things suck less, but it's kind of a shame that when I started using non-Windows OSes about 20 years ago that things haven't really improved much. There isn't typically any recognition and separation of programs that I purposefully installed which are likely to contain user modified settings versus ones that don't. Which means that over time if you're copying the home directory to a new install that a bunch of cruft can build up.
