You do realize that in addition to this being an American channel the US film industry is one of the largest and the most distributed in the world, right? Most, or all, of these films saw distribution in a large number of other countries and had localized versions. Foreign films aren't typically distributed to the same extent. Although, that will likely change as China and India become more influential and develop films that are more widely marketable.

Star Wars wasn't an accident, but it would never have happened if he hadn't had people around him telling him no and recutting it. Just look at how the movies got worse and worse as he continued to work on them after release. Or how unforgivably bad the later films were. Or the fact that he didn't make any quality films after Star Wars. Calling it an accident is probably an overstatement, but he's not a good director. He was an innovative film maker and his work transformed cinema, but he would never have had the success with Star Wars without a lot of help from friends, especially his ex-wife.

IMHO, The Empire Strikes Back was by far the best of the series. It was a much more complicated story, with much more complicated themes and was built on the back of a movie that wasn't intended to be a franchise. The rebels appeared to score a pretty definitive victory when they destroyed the original death star. At that point, the Empire having spent all that money on a wasted venture would likely have had a substantial number of star systems revolting at the same time, resulting the their supply lines all but disappearing and a huge boost to the number of rebels fighting against the Empire. But yeah, he is a great storyteller and had an amazing imagination, it's a shame that he couldn't keep his ego in check.
