  1. What's the alternative for them? I've seen doctors here talking about not taking insurance, but the reality is that for a lot of patients, that's just not viable. I had a roughly $18k medical bill for several days in the ICU years ago. The insurance covered nearly all of it, but if I was one of those people choosing to not have insurance to save some money, I would have been bankrupted by it.
