You sir are the problem. The issue with those sites is that people are giving them money to post fake claims about climate change being a hoax. Trying to bury it just reinforces the notion that these conspiracy theorists have that there's something to it. And what happens for other things where the science isn't as firmly established? Or what if there's some important topic like HIV back in the '80s where there was a significant effort to prevent people from getting funds to research it? If you're looking up "is climate change a hoax" you should get results like that. You can't force people to think correctly by removing options.

@TropicalCoder Or get a Nokia phone or other phone using Android One. Very few of the apps can't be uninstalled on my phone and the ones that I can't are mostly ones that are tied into the OS pretty tightly. Rooting it would result in the remaining apps being removable though.

If I search for something, that's what I'm asking for. And that should be what is prioritized. If the search engine starts prioritizing other things that I haven't asked for, then it puts me into a position where I can't reliably find what I'm looking for. Just imagine how much trouble there would be finding a pizza restaurant if the search engine decided that only pizza of the style made in Naples qualifies or refused to interepret champagne to refer to sparkling wines produced outside of that region, even though there was a prolonged period where other areas had drinks legitimately named that. The fact that they're focusing it on the keywords is a feature, not a bug, and there are other ways of handling the SEO issues that don't result in such biased results.

This is not true. Google's initial popularity came from being faster than other search engines of the time with more comprehensive results. They managed that specifically by not understanding the language on the page. Other search engines weren't as fast or as comprehensive because they were trying to figure out how to understand what was on the page, and Google didn't and still doesn't. It's a real nightmare using the search engine these days because it's so limited in how it will let you search. And that's before the other issues that came up in the video.

Just out of curiosity, how much did Google pay you to say that? Nothing he said in the video isn't true to a reasonable degree. Google is well known to engage in all those shady tactics and I remember when they used to put paid results at the top of the results without adequately disclaiming them as being paid results.

You're still being spied on, but you should get results that aren't messed with by Google.
