@celyl That's my assumption. I think it was mostly cylinders, but platters did technically exist by the time this was recorded. Both of which use similar technology and mainly differ in terms of the shape of the media. Most likely the original video was a motion picture with a separate recording and having both of them survive is rather impressive.

@Hh-hh5nm No, the Qing dynasty was the last dynasty before the Communists took over and ended it. When I was over there, one of my favorite things was visiting a house that once belonged to an official with the government at the time. I can't remember how old the house was, but it could have been as recent as 130 years.

@eeeyrie That's a fair point that this wasn't done in China, a bunch of the folks that were associated with the government did flee to Taiwan or the Republic of China as it's officially known.
