The worst thing about OCD is that it's pretty much the only disorder that directly blocks the path to recovery. Doing the things that OCD prevents you from doing is ultimately the only way to recovery. Yes, there are medications and therapy, but they just make it easier to do or not do the things that OCD was demanding as appropriate..

OCD is one of the hardcore disorders that people get. The only saving grace to having that disorder is that it is generally treatable, but the longer it takes to get treated, the harder it is to treat. I've suffered from it for years and the thing that tends to work is medication + some sort of therapy. Medication to help open a crack through which you can start using the techniques being taught. I've had to just accept over the years that I might come home to find the place burgled because I forgot to lock it or that it will be burned to the ground because I forgot to check a light switch. The moment you start checking things, you're just digging yourself deeper into the hole. And no, it's not easy and at a certain point it can be damn near impossible to do, but that's where medication and therapy come into it. The intrusive and repetitive thoughts are the thing that's much harder to solve.
