@johngranato2673 How many pet rock style fads go around? Those things tend to be fueled by a need for social connection and relatedness. You wouldn't have seen that fad going anywhere during the great depression because people had other things that were more important to spend their scarce money on.

@baronknownot780 Only if the prospective customers have money. Also, advertisers don't get people to buy things they don't need, those products typically do something that the customer needs, it's just that some needs are more durable than others are.
