@jimpawa5793 Mainly because Seattle didn't get the massive earthquake that's coming before being torn down in large part due to knowing that it would pancake the same way the Nimitz did in 1989. There are aspects of the viaduct that I do miss, it was an incredibly view in one direction, although there were a bunch of other issues with it beyond just how unsafe it would have been had we gotten the expected earthquake first.

@scottwendt9575 Barely, Seattle had essentially 3 options, replace it with another viaduct that was properly engineered for the expected earthquake, tunnel under or just tear it down and build a massive road. There were a fair number of people that wanted the road option, which would have been even worse than what you probably would expect as there's a ferry terminal there that requires a significant amount of road to feed it on top of it being just a couple blocks from two stadiums. Ultimately, the tunnel won out, mainly because the cost of it after accounting for the damage to downtown businesses was less than replacing it with another viaduct. We still wound up with a massive road along the waterfront though. Personally, I miss the proper street cars we used to have running up and down the waterfront next to the viaduct.

@RobertMarshall And the similar road in Seattle wasn't torn down until decades later, even knowing that the same thing could happen there and a significant earthquake during that period.
