  1. I found from my time living in the PRC that it's relatively easy to get them to think you know more Mandarin than you do. If you're using roughly the right tones and using any correct measure words, you're probably going to have a relatively tough time convincing them that you're a low level speaker. And if you're mostly using the same phrases over and over again, it gets even harder.

  2. This is the best way to learn any OS. Most modern VM systems will have some ability to snapshot or export a system at will. It allows for a ton of screwing around without risking actually doing any sort of longterm damage. The number of times that I personally had to reinstall DOS because I did things like accidentally delete the . or .. files was significant. But, I did gain a ton of confidence knowing that it was pretty hard to do any long term damage to the computer, just to the files.

  3. It's partially outdated because the disorders people seek treatment for aren't the same and partly because it's so many decades later and we know more about how the brain works. We now know that what peple think about their childhood is more important than how it was and that everyone we remember things, we subtly contaminate the memories leading to interesting results.
