  1. When I was a teenager, I had surgery to correct a birth defect that caused my legs to grow at different rates. Doctors projected that without the surgery, my right leg would be 6" shorter than my left once I was fully grown. The surgery involved cutting my leg bone, installing 6" metal spikes into my legs, and periodically rotating screws to spread the leg bone apart so it would try to heal and therefore lengthen itself. I was in a wheelchair for months. When the time came for the doctors to remove the contraption from my leg so it could fully heal, the insurance company wanted to deny the surgery, because they didn't understand why it was necessary. My surgeon literally had to personally get on the phone and yell at them to approve it. So you're damn sure I doubt love health insurance companies.
