  1. If the Germans control north Africa it's going to be much harder to invade Italy(as historical) or southern France or the Balkans(as also possible) from the Mediterranean. Also if it went stupidly bad and the Germans got the Suez canal the Brits would have to go all the way around Africa to get ships and supplies and troops between Britain and India, Australia, etc.
