The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continued their attempts to break through Russian defences on all front lines, despite heavy losses. In the north-eastern direction, at least two companies of the AFU attacked Russian military positions near the villages of Krakhmalnoye in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhovka in the Luhansk People’s Republic. The Ukrainian operation failed, and they were forced to retreat to their positions. The AFU lost up o 40 Ukrainian servicemen and four armored fighting vehicles.
To the south, forces of up to two company tactical groups of the AFU attempted to cross the Zherebets River and advance towards the villages of Raygorodki and Novovodyanoye of the Luhansk People’s Republic. The Russian military was ready for the offensive. Two Ukrainian pontoon crossings were destroyed. The AFU lost up to 20 Ukrainian servicemen and four vehicles. After the Ukrainian grouping was hit, the company of the 66th Mechanized Brigade of the AFU was sent to help the comrades. However, they fell into a minefield, where part of the military equipment was blown up. At the same time, Ukrainian forces were shelled by Russian artillery. More than 80 Ukrainian servicemen, eight armored combat vehicles and four pickup trucks were reportedly destroyed.
The similar unsuccessful offensive operations were reported on the south-eastern Ukrainian front lines. Up to three company tactical groups of the AFU attempted to attack Russian military positions near the villages of Nikolskoye, Novomayorskoye and Stepnoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic. All attacks are repelled. More than 30 Ukrainian servicemen, one tank and three armored fighting vehicles were destroyed.
On the southern front lines, the AFU continued their attempts to attack with up to two battalion tactical groups. Offensive operations were reported near the villages of Borozenskoye, Pyatikhatki, Bruskinskoye, Ishchenko in the Kherson region, and Petrovsky in the Mykolaiv region. Russian forces pushed the enemy back to the positions. As a result of the failed operations, the AFU suffered heavy losses. About 150 Ukrainian servicemen, six tanks, eight armored fighting vehicles and six cars were destroyed.
The steppes in the southern regions are the most dangerous area for any offensive operations as the advancing troops are easily targeted by enemy artillery and aviation.
Among the other gains by the Russian military, there are the control point of the 66th Mechanized Brigade of the AFU which was destroyed near Novoye in the DPR; two fuel storage bases for Ukrainian military equipment which were destroyed near Dnepropetrovsk and Pavlograd in the Dnipropetrovsk region; an ammunition depot with rockets for the American HIMARS MLRS destroyed near Predtechino in the DPR etc. A helicopter Mi-24 of the Ukrainian Air Force was shot down near the settlement of Maryanskoye in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and seven UAVs, including one Switchblade-600, were shot down in various areas in the DPR and the Kherson region.
The Ukrainian military command is using the Ukrainian servicemen as cannon fodder. The ongoing offensive operations by small groups are likely reconnaissance missions before the launch of large-scaled offensives in different regions. The AFU continue amassing forces and military equipment on the front lines in the Kharkov, Zaporozhie and Kherson regions. The Ukrainian military enjoys the advantage of a significantly superior number of personnel. Thus, the daily deaths of a hundred of servicemen in senseless attacks is not a big price to pay by the Ukrainian military command.
