If this is the trend that the Japanese,British etc Automakers have within 2 years time the German VAG group will cannibalize all brands in the world, already the are too good  , and now they are gettting low into the entry performance segment and killing poor brands as well, what the hell happened to British,Japanese engineers, I too remember the good old days of Subarus,Escorts etc nowadays if some1 wants something worth money 1 shud go the German way, cmon Subaru,Mitsubishi,Ford,Renault,Peugot etc rise up!

  5. Somehow the new Audi Haldex has managed to beat the hell out of even a rally bread Subaru WRX STi,on track as well, actually the Vee Dub did it still if VW can do it so can the Audi cuz all r same, So regarding the ability to find maximum GRIP Haldex=quattro

To be frank Subaru is no way a good choice nowadays, all other brands have moved leaps and bounds forward, Subaru is still in 90s, I used to love Subarus, not anymore cuz they are trying to b as boring as possible with mainstream cars and even STi s arent fast or modern as they should b , Still one can love Subaru only for brand or for that 90s AWD love

Jmaher please check my previous posts for lap times,Golf R can beat STI,BMW M235I , around some tracks, Merrc is prerry difficult to beat I think, Also I didnt mean its a bad car but the weapon is getting very expensive and for a little bit more one can get ligjt years better luxury and comfort in R and yet it isnt slow by any means,its just not flat out sports car its 90% sporty,u loose just that 10% but gains a lot,please try Golf R ,I actuallu a VW hater got pinned down by R,its so good man

  9. The point is there is only one car that can safisfy every demand with above average to ultra super quality,its Audi,rest all has weaknessess but if some1 is hardcore then STI is good if not AUDI/GOLF R IS UNBEATABLE

  10. tanget1337 Yes I agree with that, and I care about that because I dont want a Subaru falling apart with el cheapo plastics inside when I can get a VW Golf R thats nearly as fast has little to no turbo lag,light years better interior and refinement and quality wise, much better mileage and still practical with the exception of a little bit of the over the top entertainment

Whatever the case maybe Volkswagen group is like kind of getting invincible, nobody is able to keep track of their growth cuz its so huge, they do more wirh less, The Golfs MQB is kind of nuts that chassis has won 3 times world car f the year awards, eith Golf, Audi A3 and now the new Passat, Vw will eaaily overtake Toyota within 2 years and will dominate the world car market at this pace, its time other brands start realizing that and building some goos cars u like cheap plastic boxes .

JAnx01 sorry mate I happen to disagre with u, I have driven the latest gen Golf R and its much much better car than the Subaru WRX, sure u cant have powerslides  with ur skill but for the money the new Golf R/Audi S3 is unbelievably good, even in a track battle the Subaru has no chance against the new Golf R/S3, the lack of turbo lag is even better weapon than Subarus Boxers displacement, the new R/S3 takes corners with same or more speed than Subaru and in comfort mode its as comfy as a daily driver Golf/Audi I personally being a Ford Focus RS fan was utterly disappointed with my RS before the new Golf R, the RS couldnt keep up in drag race or even track by even a cars length, the new R is in a way worlds most under rated car

Can tuning provide comfort, can tuning provide interior quietness,quality of soft touch door materials used,the mm perfect shut lines,the brilliant set of features it provides,the mileage it provides,the worlds second fastesr gearbox the DSG,NO Also just youtube GOLF R biturbo,its stage 2 and it even beats 600+ hp LAMBOS,VW nowadays is totally in a league of its own VAG has le mans,GT series,WRC,DTM,etc etc everywhere they r winners,the worlds biggest selling chassis is also the MQB that skoda,vw,audi,seat share Just try the new GOLF R,rather than commentin u ll understand what I mean

In almost all track battles the Golf R is either faster or just a smidge slower than STI,remember 50 hp less light years better interior as well,a hardcore focused car is just as good as a VWs fast Golf, If u people still r tryin to defend Subaru its becuz either some havent driven the new Golf R or its fanboyism,I am not fan of either of of em,but the Golf R is damn soo brilliant that 1 will find it difficult to hate it,and when Golf does 95% of things Subaru does with more comfort luxury,class,easiness,what should I pick.

  21. tanget1337 See if thats the case every car in the world is good,n car is bad every car will suit every1s taste, in this 21st century if some1 is able to get a lot more for less money then its a huge sucess, the Audi/Golf R gives much much more than what Subaru gives in terms of quality,refinement,comfort,badge value etc etc Subarus price of 28000 is actually not at al cheap and for that price only 1 thing is better inSubaru than Audi/Golf R thats the pure  difff based AWD system, in all other aspects the Germans just destroy the Japanese Subaru

  22. tanget1337 See in my opinion the things that the STi lacks is engine Power, sure it has 300+PS but there is huge turbo lag below 2500 rpm and thats plain annoying when we need a sudden move on Secondly the Subaru isnt as fast as I expected,even with symmetrical open diff the Subaru wasnt as fast as I expected, it can lap 1-2 seconds faster than a Golf GTi but it wasnt as fast as a Golf R and that too against manual R Looks- It looks same and just like the old STi and dosent have much difference and it felt heavy under high speed braking and handling is way worse than expected from a Subaru specially the light weight ones from 90s and 2000s this new one was not willing as well when pushed hard On the other hand the Golf R which used to be as dump as ever when the MK6 was out on sale improved drastically sure it dosent have the mechanical feel but it almost rectified all its faults, the TCS can be disabled,but stability control is undefeatable but with TCS off we can have quiet good fun, the interior refinement power the quickness of DSG everything seems so perfectly matched and in rhythm with the Golf R except its super boring boxy looks,but again I just had to compromise very little with Golf R when compared to Subaru which after almost 6 years didnt evolve enough to fight the competition

See why is it that nobody agreez that the new STI is slower than Audi s3,i having driven a new Golf R is pretty damn sure how the new R performs,more over the drag race here shows how much the new R or s3 can pull ahead off the STI on a straight course,the new STI isnt as good as expected from Subaru,accept it people, Germans have now become soo good,i actually hated VW products,look at ma proxy name,i love Ford cars and never ever i thought i would even apprwciate a VW but having driven the new R,i must admit that its leagues ahead of ones preception,everybody says it lacks feel blah blah blah, sure it isnt as pin point sharp but it has more than 90% of abilities of Subaru with lightyears ahead of luxury comforts etc as addition,its a fact If somebody thinks otherwise it must be that one must be a hardcore driving enthusiast or some kind of racing driver aspirant,for 90%+ of people who are buying performance hatchs the new R or s3 is way better car,period

Tangent1337 I kind of agree with you in a lot of ways but i can xplain y these cars are even matches Both have 300 hp and above 380 NM both have manuals Both are AWD Golf R and STI price difference aint huge Both are 4 doors Both have acceptable ride heights and great rires as stock Both claim to be their halo performance AWD cars Both are road legal and not racing cars So comparing STI with s3 or Golf R is something thats worth the take About lap times in some tracks the STI is faster,but in most situatuions and on roads the S3 or R is faster,i think you havent seen a clip where s3vs golf r vs sti are compared by caradvice.com.au there are also some written reviews where STI faces competition against golf R ,renault Megane etc and STI couldnt make significance with lap times if subjectivity is taken into accout as i ve told b4 every car in thia world is good for specific tastes but when objectivity and logic are considered the STI is not a car that can win against s3 or golf R despite being brand new and expenaive

I too have driven Megane 265 and Focus RS as well, also MK6 Golf R, try not to argue without driving the new R or Audi S3, I know how that beauty Megane corners with that supremely good front diff but take my word the new Golf R is really good, much better than you might think, Now it seems u r some one who has real merit, the Megane is a real benchmark car and the STi on that count is a car that should be better than the previous generation STi right, but in my observation its not, the new STi didnt feel as precise or light as previous gen STI and felt 2 slow while taking low speed corners compared to the older STi i have driven the old STI, it had less power but more feel,more eagerness, the new STi wasnt that perfect, felt like it was confused whether to be a hardcore machine or be an all rounder, between I test drove the STi today, and everything is pretty much clear for me Its a great car,sure the diff works brilliantly much better than the VAG cars and one can feel it if one keeps on mashing throttle at full lock and it drifts beautifully, much much better than VAG cars, as said be4 turbo lag really let it down at times, specially when dealing deep U turns etc I accept that VAG cars are way behind the feel factor but for my money I would pick the Golf R over STi cuz I felt it suits me better Still I am waiting for my dream car to be launched here in Europe the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, until then I just keep on test driving cars,

Ya STI feels like a rally car with HVAC and NAV, The s3 is a real luxury drive, and most surprisingly fun to drive unlike a lot of Audis like rs3,which understeers like shit, Also the DSG is soo damn fast that I hit 0-100 kmph in 4.9s,I mean think of it under 5s with a 2.0 turbo i4,isnt that crazy fast,also inside the s3 its like comfort and quality and features that pampers with dedication unlike a so called feeling of loaded interior, Also VW GOLF R has already got to stage 2 and it does 0-100 kmph in 4.2s,I mean thats insane for a 2.0 turbo, and haldex is so damn good nowadays that the new golf or s3 can lap realy fast, Subaru aint bad but Audi gives a feeling that its more expensive to but it does give the sense of satisfaction, with Subaru I felt like well there were compromises like the huge turbo lag below 2000 rpm,and always stiff ride quality S3 nearly showed dual nature ,in comfort mode its like a regular Audi with soft compliant quiet ride,put it in sport it gets stiffer though no way near as stiff as sti,yet dosent pitch or roll

Razvan J S3 is not that great but the Golf R is super cool, and what makes it best is unbelievable interior quality,comfort,features,quietness,adjustable dampers, all this and when one needs to some thrills it can stand and even defeat thorough bread sports cars like STi,M135i,etc one should understand that it is a GOLF a family hatch doing all this, STi, etx are made for sportiness, BMW has 6 cylinders and a turbo, the A45 AMG needs 55 more HP, a super stiff suspension to keep pace with R, sure its not the most cutting edge when it comes to driving, but there s no car on planet earth thats a better all rounder than the VW MK7 GOLF R, hell it even gives 17 kmpl on highway drive with 3 on board and at a speed of 110 kmph cruise, and a city mileage of 9.7 kmpl in hardcore traffic and 10.5-11 kmpl on average, How many cars that can do 0-100 under 5s can manage that, and sure its not a track killer but its lap time of 1:44.04 in Laguna Seca is faster than WRX STi.

Razvan J Yeah, but lets b clear here, I meant sports cars becuause they are more hardcore, the Civic SI is hardcore, the WRX STi is hardcore with a full time centre differential unlike Haldex, BMW has 6 cylinders and a turbo, and A45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG are sporty hatchs, they are no regular C, or A Class, The Golf is theast aggressive of the lot yet its able to be as fast as some entry level M cars with more HP and torque and defeat a Hardcore Subaru WRX STI, See I am a Ford guy, I am all around for the upcoming Focus RS, but even still after driving the R, the wow factor still remains. Its faster than WRX in striaghts and around most tracks, yet as refined as a Merc C Class, in comfort mode, gives super mileage, it the roomiest hatch, U really dont get it, If one needs an all around car there is nothing on planet earth that can touch R, If U still dont believe me, read Motor Trends Golf R vs WRX STi review

Razvan J So what man, for the money, U get luxury + performance in Audi, while Subaru gives less performance and more tunability, but can never get image,luxury,stock power,comfort etc of Audi I feel for a regular joe the Audi si more car for the mopney, the STi is just for the enthusiasts and nobody else
