@saphironkindris A meaty chunk of the left's mentality on how the world works slants away from that. To do that kind of militia work and keep braced when storm clouds are not obviously on the approach comes much less naturally to the left than right. It's a very broad stroked way of painting people but if liberal left people were of a mindset to generate sustained self-defence initiatives for a threat that may very well not manifest then they wouldn't be democrats in the first place. and would be operating with a mentality more in alignment with wide swaths of conservative thinking where the chain of thought goes that having the good kind of order is a precious thing, really hard to achieve, and really easy to lose.
