Now that is quite interesting. Though frankly back here in the US is happening as well. Hell it's how Donald Trump got elected. And much of our current cadre of new representatives.

You have a lot of things that'd happen if society just collectively said no lol

@WispFigment Yeah I was referring more to a lot of things that'd end. Universities would go broke, the government would basically just be unable to do anything, etc

Yeah the amount of power concentrated in elite as a result of knowledge concentration was a huge aspect of history which is basically just gone now. And well the printing press really does make sense for comparison even through that lens because beforehand you had to have the writings of People to get their knowledge and it'd really only be preserved once somewhere. Compared to the printing press where you could distribute thousands of copies. And now I have to Wonder if the printing press is what allowed the rapid acceleration that allowed the rest of the inventions of the industrial age to occur.

That's actually hilarious

@JeroenJA Yeah that's incorrect in a lot of ways. The problem is that our mainstream news (the ones that would make it over there) basically have most leaning only one direction and the accuracy of most of the news networks, as well as degree of bias, is about the same. But all of that is almost completely irrelevant as what was actually the part played by the news channels here was giving him free coverage at every single moment because of how boisterous he was. He was a television star and he used it to his advantage to get BILLIONS of dollars worth of free coverage just by being the guy who does things. He was then the centerpiece of the news cycle because it's not like his character changed at all. He was free content for networks that had to adapt to 24 hour news cycles and the internet age where people don't pay attention as long. Hate content gets clicks and he was perfect for it. Also social media shares largely the same slant as many news sources get blocked from some sources who have as much credibility as others basically because of political slant. Biggest thing that would help is basically ground news but most institutions in the US regarding the media, big tech, and universities, are all taken with some degree of alignment with social justice and they're the leadership. So literally none of that would be done as it goes against their own political leanings.

@julius43461 With human technological progress the pace basically increases the more people you have. As roughly the same portion of the population is around to think of and make things. But inventions that allow you to increase the percentage who have access to relevant information also allow you to increase that percentage.

@JeroenJA Tbh best decision they ever made long term since I can't really see the continued length of the union. Europe may be as united as the peace of Westphalia but that didn't last very long and it doesn't really show an overall trend in the other direction.

@JeroenJA Brexit didn't actually do that shock. There's still tons of people in EU countries who have their doubts. The only reason it works is because of the economic benefits of the union but that's going to stop making sense pretty soon. Remember that most all of the EU countries are going to be aging themselves into Japanese levels of economic slowdown soon (except for places like France), and Germany, the industrial heart of the EU, is going to start losing its industrial capabilities because of just how much natural gas they've been sucking up from Russia and nowhere near enough LNG facilities from ports to make it up with the lignite coal facilities still taking time to spin up. Will they still be wealthy? Yes no doubt about that. But there's no way for them to sustain the EU like they have until now and it's going to make sense for the various states of the EU to start going their separate ways.

Jordan Peterson outlined those two along with the atom bomb as fundamental changes to society
