@brucebaxter6923 They didn't exactly win the space race. And the reason they got into space first was they didn't care as much about safety vs the Americans testing things more thoroughly. Though it goes out the window when there's a competitor

I think the biggest thing is that to a degree, it further equalizes the relative power between global opponents. It means for relatively low costs, you can give quality equipment to many forces. So long as you're not facing crushing air Supremacy, there is now quite a bit you can do to counter threats from superior forces. That's what the rise of cheap precision does. Even for smaller and middle powers in a context of government V government, that too is true. The rise of autonomous systems and lower production costs associated with them means that they can afford to expand their air forces enough to contest the skies and not be immediately crushed by air superiority. Overall, it's a further democratization of the battlefield. Though likely still in favor of smaller, better equipped and technical forces, rather than very large forces. As far as the current trend is going, it seems the future is dominated by a small core of very expensive systems that can achieve breakthroughs, aided by a vast number of very cheap autonomous systems meant to compliment them.

Check the Turkish navy. They're going all in on the drone carrier concept.

@SilverStarHeggisist I actually looked into this recently. To some extent that's true, but seemingly not really. The mission currently seems to simply be less public and also more in line with using the sensor package to guide other drones and munitions to their targets while they stay behind the line.

No. We're currently making stealth UCAVs in order to be "loyal wingmen" to the fighters they compliment. So we are having drone fighters. The Turks, Americans, and Aussies are all on it.

Tbh this line of thinking may have strategic reasons to exist again since the aircraft carrier is starting to come under threat by new Missile systems which make large and expensive ships, like the aircraft carrier, more vunerable.
