I’m particularly dissatisfied with this video for a number of reasons. First, it doesn’t synthesise or communicate the ideas in a new, satisfying or adequate way. Second, the visual format and structure leave much to be desired, as does my diction! That being said, I set out to research the limits of the market relatively thoroughly through a balanced, liberal lens, mainly to bolster my own point of view, and to use for reference in essays, videos and arguments in the future. I feel I at least achieved this so thanks for sticking with me. I’m especially looking forward to drawing upon these thoughts through an engagement with anarchist or socialist critiques of political economy.
As always, thank you to my Patreons – you enable me to really take the time to digest theory like this, time I wouldn’t otherwise have.
And thanks to all my subscribers - Let me know what you think!

Short bit of news for those who noticed I have put myself in the video for the first time: First, a few days ago the entire channel was demonetized because it ‘doesn’t comply with the Youtube partner programme guidelines.’ I’ve had a back-and-forth with YT who won’t give any more information other than the reason is ‘Spam: Large amounts of untargeted, unwanted, or repetitive content.’
This is obviously really frustrating and vague, and after doing some research it seems like this is happening to channels more and more. From a couple of conservations on Reddit, it seems that the most likely reason is that Youtube is trying to discourage any content that reuses lots of public domain footage/photos at the expense of ‘original content’. This is understandable, but frustrating when that sort of media is perfect for making history video essays. Even more frustrating is that YT’s guidelines say that doing this is fine as long as your ‘adding value’ to it, which presumably I am doing.
I can reapply in the 30 days, and I’m hoping that this is a mistake. Just in case, I’m looking for ways I can improve the channel, which might involve more of me in it (unfortunately for you!), more animated graphics somehow or more footage I shoot myself. The last two are difficult and time consuming for someone who has little animation expertise and is short on the time it takes to add these things to videos. Making original graphics is time-consuming but something I have wanted to improve on for a while. For now, I’ll keep battling on and trying to improve and see what develops over the next few months.
If you’re interested you can look through the Reddit threads I’ve made about this here (any upvotes will help):
https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/9uf2n1/demonetized_for_spam_for_no_reason/
https://www.reddit.com/r/PartneredYoutube/comments/9uex7c/demonetized_because_of_spam/
And, as usual, please send feedback: First, I know the sound and camera quality isn’t as good in the bits of me, so I’ll improve on that. And I’ll also work on not squirming around on the squeaky chair and relax a bit more. This is all new to me so hopefully, I’ll improve each week.
And, even more the usual, this channel is running on financial fumes. If you’ve at all considered supporting me on Patreon this is the time! I’m looking to improve the extras Patreon supporters receive soon too.
Thank you so much to those that watch, like and share regularly – it really does make a huge difference.
