  1. Given the lack of any transports or amphibious assault ships in Nazi Germany, I doubt the RN would need to do anything to stop Operation Sealion. They would never get across in the first place.

  2. Science Chap An even bigger problem with Bismarck is her very, VERY terrible armour layout (Germany simply didn’t realize all-or-nothing armour was a thing because they missed the entire development of AoN armour schemes thanks to Versailles).

  3. mazack00 He already went over this in a previous video: they were there because the IJN wanted to add new targeting equipment without sacrificing turret space, so during reconstructions they built these gigantic masts rather than making an actual superstructure, and kept adding onto them.

  4. Or you can just skip the giant hull and the big guns and just build two more Atlanta’s, though the SoDaks were laid down when nobody realized BBs were already obsolete.

  5. Gerald Gray It’s not canister shot but a specialized shell (San-Shiki shell) that exploded at a set elevation and spewed flaming shrapnel. Except that since battleship main batteries suppress the other guns, firing these things actually lowered the amount of AA on the ship.

  8. How effective would the German, British, Japanese, American, French and Italian navies have been if they didn’t build any battleships during the leadup to WWII or later, spending those resources on other warships?

  10. Frank DeMaris Nitpicking here, but the Bismarcks are about 40,000 tons standard displacement and 50,000 tons at full combat load, not 45,000 tons at either measurement. Re: Java Sea with Force Z, unless they bring all four the ABDA force would probably still have the upper hand-PoW is far more fearsome an opponent than the any of the reconstructed battlecruisers.
