A bigger problem would be the strategic cost issue. You’re building a capital ship to kill subcapitals and the subcapitals will always have a strategic advantage there.

@horikyosuke4794 The NorCals ended up being 4kts slower in practice due to vibration issues, but yeah a better design overall.

He's still being attacked from the air by Taffy 1 and 2 (which were in the battle, and the CVEs actually did have anti-ship munitions despite traditional accounts claiming otherwise), the rest of Seventh Fleet is heading north to repeat Surigao (albeit things would be harder this time), and even if Kurita makes it to the landing beaches the situation still wouldn't be nearly as bad as people tend to assume-the troops and the immediately-needed supplies had already been landed.

@UnintentionalSubmarine The idea Bismarck was intended as a raider from the start is false: the true primary intent was to counter the Richelieus (though the French vessels were superior overall in both absolute and relative capabilities). Then France capitulated.
