Anyone else think this is one of those ships that would have a bunch of issues with herself and/or hate her own country/humans as a whole if she was sentient? - entered service when her strategic value was….questionable (regardless of how well-designed she was), and never actually managed to serve as a capital ship, instead ending up as a gigantic CLAA and (postwar) a gigantic monitor. - ended up being actively detrimental to her own side during Operation Hailstone (alongside New Jersey) by preventing the carriers from launching their last air attacks to finish off the last of the Japanese vessels, resulting in Nowaki’s escape as well as earning the enmity of Enterprise and her crew. - and to top all of this off, she suffered a turret explosion due to BuOrds incompetence, then had one of her crew members blamed for it because homophobia, not to mention that the incident wouldn’t have happened if she wasn’t forced back into service at least partly due to political reasons long after she’d become completely obsolete. Like, seriously, the only other ship I can think of that would have not one but THREE reasons to hate both herself and her nation/humanity in general is Yamato, which is ironic.

@Bellthorian But in Iowa’s case it was specifically caused by high-level incompetence, and the way the US Navy handled the investigation is fucking disgusting and something the ship herself-if she was sentient-would never have approved of.
