@thehandoftheking3314 There are no less than FIVE WWII-era battleship classes that are flat-out superior to the Bismarcks (Richelieus, Littorios, Yamatos, Iowas, and Vanguard) both relative to displacement AND in absolute terms (granted, two of these classes are significantly larger than the Bismarcks, but even then they're more efficiently designed). The Bismarcks were glass-cannony (especially for their size), their saving grace was that in a setting where the entire battleship concept was obsolete, being badly designed compared to your peers wasn't that relevant.

@zacharyleao2526 The USN but only when it came to overall strategy (having already planned for an extended island-hopping campaign and a war of attrition against an overextended Japan in the later iterations of War Plan Orange); they still had no idea in 1941 that battleships were already obsolete, for one thing (and even after they figured it out they decided to put the Iowas in service for some reason).

@kingquackie7284 Basically lack of concern for submarines. They took enemy ships and enemy aircraft seriously, but not submarines.
