  2. The Japanese heavy cruisers were still quite formidable for their size, even after considering the fact they broke treaty limits; certainly a far better use of resources than German cruisers.

  3. Battleship main guns actually are worse than useless for AA, because the black wave will prevent anyone from manning the actual AA guns, thus reducing AA capability.

  4. By your definition of a battlecruiser, Yamato is a battlecruiser. She wasn’t immune to her own guns either.
