There are very few big-gun capital ships that actually made a major contribution in a war. This is one of them.

Agreed. IMO far less deserving of her fate than Warspite.

@Easy-Eight Nah Enterprise's combat record is a lot better despite a much shorter career.

@ULTRA_2112 In all of these battles (including Jutland) she either didn't contribute much and/or wasn't necessary for the job (Seriously, you think she wasn't pointless overkill for killing destroyers or cruisers?). Simply being present at a battle or even participating doesn't equal being a good warship for that engagement. Enterprise, on the other hand, genuinely was the best ship for the jobs she did until the Essexes came along, and she actively participated in all her engagements instead of just hanging around.

@ULTRA_2112 saying that a carrier's air groups are not part of the carrier is as stupid as saying a battleship's guns are not part of the ship. They're both the main weapons of the ship in question. Yes Enterprise was also overkill for cargo ships and destroyers. But she still took down three peer opponents and fought two others before the Essex-class rendered her redundant, which is still a far better track record. I already mentioned that she didn't contribute much after 1943, but she did enough before that point to outshine any battleship or even any other carrier that existed in WWII. At the Battle of Jutland the British and German battlecruisers did the most of the damage to each side, with a significant contribution from Jellicoe's battleline; Fifth Battle Squadron didn't do all that much. The Battle of Calabria shouldn't have involved British battleships at all. If the RN was smart they would have used the Fleet Air Arm to attack with impunity.

@ULTRA_2112 by that logic no US Aircraft carrier ever sank anything, which is a stupid thing to say. Just because the main weapons on a CV are interchangeable doesn't mean they are not the CV's weapons.

Given that Missouri never did much, probably not. The Iowas in general have a poor combat record compared to their capabilities, due to being battleships built in the carrier age. (Yes I know they did AA and shore bombardment work, but they were never designed around these roles, don't have any particularly outstanding contributions in these areas, and were cost-inefficient at these tasks)
