@throckmortensnivel2850 "Progress is our most important product." Was a trade marked slogan of GE commercials Movie star Ronald Reagan parroited on 1950's TV commercials.

@phyllisclark3896 Sowell is a liar. Without protests of corporate and government policies by working people segregation and dangerous pollution would be still providing profits for the bosses.

What is setting in is a deep seated realization that capitalism does work the way its defenders claim.

"Progress is our most important product." Was GE's slogan that Ronald Reagan parroted in 1950's commercials. GE Bosses no doubt want to beat their chests as smart innovators not the company responsible for PCB pollution of the Housatonic river. The company that used PCB's in electrical power transmission equipment for forty eight years. Reports on the dangers of PCB began as early as the 1930's. Like lead in gasoline and DDT PCB is was banned due to the environmental dangers it posed. Had not a public outcry arised big business would have kept raking in the profits from this man made hazard. .

@reedwright301 So what all Sowell says is only trade off are possible. Like the rest of his nonsense that is untrue. Sowell plays the dumb one and pretends that trade produces value when he says it can be beneficial to both parties the same goes for taking risks where he says their can be big payoffs when taking big risks. As if gambling was not governed by the laws of probability and even if you can't predict the outcome it is has a labor cost because gambling doesn't add anything. He denies the labor theory of value for the subjective one by vugarlising the ideas of previous philosophers including the early classical economists. John Locke said labor transforms nature. For Sowell he pretends like all the modren bourgeois economist that the entrepreneur is producing something secretive not connected to his human activity. This is why he glorifies the capitalist as a producer while ignoring how production actually takes place.

It's the result of the natural workings of capitalism that was able to free itself from the losses it took from the class struggle in the early 20th century.
2
@Nick-fg4dq Ya as if big business lead the campaign against segregation or industrial pollution or any other progress the working people have made.
2
You mean the welfare payments to Big Business after 2008?

That's because this fools explanations from day one are short sighted like all the decisions made by the capitalists and their government.

@jb-vb8un Democrats are NOT communists. Cuba got rid of Segregation in 1959. Republicans betrayed Blacks in 1877 with the Hayes Tilden compromise opening the way for segregation and seperate but UNequal. The same year that federal troops were required to put down the Great Railroad strike produced by wage cuts. . The volunteer soldiers of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces sons and daughters of Cuban sugar cane slaves defeated the pro Imperialist UNITA and Apartheid South Africa Army. A defeat the drove a dagger into the myth of the invincible white man.
1
@jb-vb8un Everyone knows that segregation was a national problem not just in the Jim Crow south and that both parties supported it Plessy vs Ferguson. the KKK was both a North and South Democratic party organization. .
1
@johnjaso385 So at the end of the civil war a trade off was made by Republicans to get Democratic Party support by withdrawing Federal Troops from the South because it was too expensive to defend the newly Black slaves from KKK and Red shirt terror. Why do you ask Sowell about that fact?

@johnjaso385 I'm not allowed to respond furher as I've been censored now.

That's correct the successful fight for the immediate needs of the working class brings hope and awakens the gravediggers of capitalism the industrial workers.

@farpointgamingdirect Marx lived a modest life his ideas have influenced the thinking and lives of millions. The manifesto of the Communist Party has been one of the most translated and published works in world history written just 175 years ago.

@nighthero7 No because capitalism is about private profit and luxuries for a few the capitalist investing in expanding production only if he sees profits ahead and if he has capital that can't produce profits by expanding production he invest in driving up the values in speculation. This inevitable produces an economic crisis when markets become filled with the overproduction of commodities that can no longer be sold for a profit causing an economic collapse since the workers can not but back all that can be produced and the employers than layoff workers to to halt losses producing a self defeating economic crisis requiring a bailout.
1
@nighthero7 The early twentieth century saw the World War producing the Russian Revolution and the beginning of the anti colonial revolution. The comes the era of fascism and the rise of NAZI Germany. The Soviet workers defeat NAZI Germany and the Chinese kick out the Imperial powers and follow the Soviet Union while in the western Hemisphere the Cuban revolution impacts the whole world with a defeat on the mightiest Empire in Human history by a small nation located just 90 miles away.

@RESISTANCEISFUTILE2024 Maybe it was good for you but world economy has never fully recovered from the crisis of 2008. The pandemic just pushed forward another downturn which always follow booms. Presidents of both parties always like to take credit for booms and balem the other party for a bust. None of these monetary policies of tax cuts for the rich or tax increases on the rich will necessarily produce an outcome claimed. Sure if they cut taxes it frees money for investment while the borrowing from the same poeple you just gave a tax cut to increases investment in the national debt. If you raise taxes on the rich than just the opposite occurs.

@nighthero7 Barter is just exchange without the use of money as an intervening value. Before capitalism and at the beginning of capitalism most people were engaged in agriculture and handicraft production. With the discovery of gold and sliver along with its mining in the New World gold and silver was minted into coins in Europe and the Americas for money. Hitler was handed power by the German ruling class. He build an organization orf illegal political thugs called the NAZI Party. Stalin told the leaders of the German Communist Party that the Social Democrats were Social Fascists and to wait for a mass uprising against the NAZI's instead of closing ranks with the Social Democrats and overthrowing capitalist rule.
