I remember the last recession, yes people lost their homes. But shops and businesses all closed, and unemployment went through the roof.

@oldbloke204 Fuel went down about 10c. There may have been regional differences, the company my husband worked for closed due to offshore competition, and so did many others. The shopping centres where I lived at the time was full of empty shops. The only retail businesses that survived were Coles, a chemist, a pub, service station and one fish and chip shop. So most retail and hospitality workers were unemployed. I remember a kind of alternate economy. All the hairdressing shops had closed, but hairdressers would cut hair for cash in their kitchens, but even that was beyond most people's budgets, and landlords would offer tenants a month's free rent just to get tenants. This was my experience in the outer suburbs of Brisbane.

@tamarawest6203 I don't know how natural it was, Keating seemed to have planned it well. This time around the government, either side, will artificially drive demand through immigration, war or both.
