  1. For my 2c worth. The lax immigration policy has only brought in wealthy, or rich Chinese. The last 30 years, in Vancouver, all this money has kept an Inefficient system afloat. Running up the real estate market, but not doing anything for the productive economy. Many of these top end people, are strongly affiliated with the CCP. So we have increased our sovereign risk, as well.

  3. Check the happiness index for Taiwan. The best in Asia. It’s a great place. Despite the existential threat, of being wiped out.

  4.  @wandererj4437  You haven’t heard, that it is now, a surveillance state. It no longer has freedom of speech, or an independent judiciary. The promise of two systems till 2047, was quashed by Beijing. Personally, I’m sad to say, that it is no longer, a safe and wonderful, place to visit.

  7. I don't own a $2mil shack, in Vancouver. Or have a pension. But, through living frugally, investing all the way. There is enough to last, beyond the end. My net worth is all in the bank/brokerage. Easy pickings, for a fat unproductive government. Taxes are more than reasonable now, considering excellent healthcare is included. But it won't be reasonable, in the near future. One or two, of these places, sound like a good idea.

  8. No hard feelings, being American in Serbia? The Serbians I work with in Vancouver, hate NATO, the USA, and Canada. For attacking them, in the Bosnian war. They refuse to believe, that Milosovich, is a war criminal.

  13. When it goes sideways, and your'e away from home... In February, my buddy and I, did a car road trip, from Vancouver to San Felipe Mexico. 5 minutes, across the border in Mexicali, we were shook down by the police. The rest of the time there everyone was really nice. But it places doubt, in your mind. You are the outsider. It made us more relaxed, tent camping, back through the USA.
