The US has taught Iran two things: 1) They'll take you seriously and avoid escalation if you have nukes (North Korea) And 2) Any deals made with the US are worthless as you can't trust a coming president to abide by any agreements (Trump) While nuclear proliferation is never a good thing, I completely understand why Iran wants to obtain them to prevent any future plans from Israel or the US to strike their soil, essentially committing acts of war disguised as altruistic acts of international security. This political and clandestine conflict is in my opinion solely a creation of ours (The West).
