They lost interest in the news a very long time ago.

If all government agencies had true accountability, not to mention frugality and fiscal discipline, things would improve drastically and quickly. I'm not saying everything would be perfect, but it would be a good start. In this case, 'accountability' means being dismissed, losing your lavish pension and other perks, and possibly going to jail.

@Carlin2810 As well. Two words, not one.

@BrianGoodall-u2z If an MP or Peer holds passport A and passport B, is their loyalty to A or to B? I don't know whether David Lammy, as a purely random example, holds a Guyanese passport, but if the British government ever went to war with Guyana, which side would he support? There are plenty clear conflicts of interest in Westminster and Whitehall.

@daveday6728 What's it like to suck up to the governing class?
9
@mwb65wlm77 I only have guilt over wrong things I do. I'm not going to punish myself or anyone else over stuff that happened centuries ago in places that most of us have never seen and probably never will see.

@sullyx5142 Who are the far right?
8
I believe he was attending the opening of a can of baked beans at the time.
8
Mr Lawrence himself described the BBC as a nonce club.
8
It isn't just Channel 4 and OFCOM. The entire media industry is a nonce club.
8
@janyb1907 Only in the bureaucratic or legal sense. Culturally and emotionally, he's an enemy.
8
@BrianGoodall-u2z If you don't like the channel or its viewers, why are you here? Most of us avoid places where we don't like the company.
8
@dtulip1 Judging by the description of the psychopaths in attendance, I'd say this review is on the money.
8
I was absolutely gutted when Essex County Cricket Club (my club) failed some pointless 'diversity' test a few years ago. The word 'Essex' means 'East Saxons'. Only W hite people can be Saxons.
8
@ You must have seen that post from the Babylon Bee.
8
His religion and skin colour provide him with a fail-proof stay-out-of-jail card.
8
@anthonyclegg1511 The 'Tory' government's socialism has sent shivers down my spine as well.
7
@anthonyclegg1511 I'd love to see a government that's nationalist, socially conservative, frugal and fiscally disciplined, anti-immigration and tough on crime, among other things. Which party should I vote for?
7
@anthonyclegg1511 Government spending has gone through the roof in recent years (the deficit and debt are eye-watering). So much for frugality. If it had been spent on necessary stuff instead of welfare tourists and pointless managers and pen-pushers in the public sector, it wouldn't have been so bad.
7
Will the van's loudspeaker be playing Orange tunes when Rangers are at home?
7
@DaveBeaven-tx2tp Is his partner one of Schofield's sloppy seconds?
7
@ Saying anything bad against Ukraine is more likely to get you some prison time.
7
@BrianGoodall-u2z We mustn't allow the people to have a say, must we?
7
She could easily pass for a Greek or Italian.
7
Everybody must know by that the BBC's 'reputation' is in the sewer, yet people still apply for employment there. Personally, I wouldn't want my name to be tarnished by being connected with such depravity.
7
@bren70ssss94 That always helps you get ahead in the arts/entertainment business, just like it does in politics. As long as you play their game, the skeletons will be kept in the closet while your career progresses.
7
Interactions between human beings and government employees should be kept to the absolute bare minimum necessary.
7
I'm not so sure. The MSM outlets are all on the same team, just as the mainstream political parties are all on the same team.
7
It would also bring down a fair number of Parliamentarians, senior Whitehall mandarins, senior police officers and so on. Hillary Clinton once said that if she went down, she could take down half of DC with her. The same thing applies here. As George Carlin said, it's all a club, and we're not in it
7
@billybaxter6333 It became even worse when it moved from Manchester to London.
7
@richardhussey-cq2se There's a ton of competition.
7
Even if Argentina invades before the election, the government won't respond, but I'd also prefer to laugh at Labour's response.
7
When I see someone reading the Graun, I'm reminded that it's far easier to fool someone than it is to convince them that they've been fooled.
7
When the police, prosecutors and judges are all on their side, they won't even be charged, let alone jailed.
6
@facthunt2facthunt245 You'd think the media would have been all over that story years ago.
6
We helped defaet the rwong enemy in 194 5.
6
Leave it out.
6
Being on the BBC's payroll is a good way to avoid work.
6
@clogs4956 Didn't he also allow an unmentionable group to return to England after a few hundred years? That must have been the price he was forced to pay in return for the money he needed to raise and maintain his New Model Army.
6
None so blind as those who don't want to see.
6
Not by BBC "standards".
6
@elkpaz560 Some people think the government cares about the people. Some people think. Unfortunately, there aren't nearly enough of us in the second category.
6
@BadAppleBlues If I remember rightly, the Bliar government included 1 or 2 lawyers who represented PIE in the 1970s.
6
Our ancestors were duped by Chamberlain and Churchill. As General Patton said, we defeated the wrong enemy. Patton was wacked for his troubles.
6
When it comes time to spend the public's money, governments will always go for the most expensive option available.
6
@pinball8701 When her career tanks, she'll no doubt blame Donald Trump.
6
@trevorhoward2254 The DPP might not carry out prosecutions personally, but does have the final say in which cases are prosecuted and establishes the agency's overall policy and "culture". The buck has to stop at his/her desk.
6
jathompson7606 He always was a commie, but we didn't use the term "woke" back then the way we use it now.
6
@ Anyone who's sceptical about the professional political class must be doing something right.
5
People would still be surprised that so-and-so managed to miss the cut.
