  1. I get several channels streamed over the Internet directly to my Samsung TV. I also get a channel program guide for over the air TV. Those two features are things I never got on any TV I owned before, at least not directly on the TV itself. So I put up with a few ads. If you want to disable the ads, just don't connect your Samsung TV to the Internet. You will lose the Internet streaming functionality and won't get firmware updates, but you can still use a different box (Roku, etc.) for streaming.

  2.  @apengvin  I do use the "free" included software for the smart functions which allow me to stream shows over the Internet through Samsung TV as I previously stated. When I tune to these streaming channels through the onscreen program guide, I do not see half-screen static ads. Like I said before, he can disconnect the TV from the Internet, or just use the steaming channels through the guide. I think he sees the half-screen static ads when he brings up categories to stream. But that is also an added feature which did not exist with older TVs. I'm not here to defend Samsung or its ads. I agree that they should not be making additional money from a TV you already purchased. But I put up with ads to get the added functionality from an ongoing service they do provide for "free".
