  1. Timing and bugs. The extra pathways in the backdoored CPU would take some number of clock cycles to run. That would add extra time for the CPU to process. That could be detected by using hardware timers separate from the CPU, although that would be very difficult to do. What would you compare it with since you would not have a "normal" CPU to compare it against. CPU and code backdoors can have bugs which could expose their existence. That is how The Matrix was discovered.
