I moved from the USA to a country in Europe in 2018. The condo I bought there did not have a dishwasher, so I bought one from Ikea and installed it myself. It didn't wash dishes well; that's when I went back to the instructions and learned that I needed dishwasher salt. They sell this at most grocery stores there, and it is very cheap. After that my dishes were clean again. I also learned that in Europe they only run cold water lines to dishwashers and clothes washers. The machines heat the water themselves, so you get very consistent temperatures.
