You won't find teachers in Canada, where they are well treated, striking. In fact it's bloody hard to get a teaching job there. Most people in the UK don't want to know what a truly awful job teaching in the UK is. Many teachers are incredibly overworked, and put in as many hours outside school as they do while there: maybe even more. When they are in the classroom they get it in the neck from unruly kids, who they are not allowed discipline, and outside the classroom they are bullied mercilessly by inept management. All this is probably more important than the pay. As for the pay, once you claw your way up the pay scale you will have to stay put in your current school because most schools are now only interested in recruiting cheap NQTs or on the job trainees. Well, that's if you can keep your job, because older more experienced teachers are often relentlessly bullied until they leave.
