Many years ago, as a software developer, there was a particular type of person I really loathed. They would make a mistake, but instead of admitting it they would do their best to hide it, which made things vastly worse for everyone, including themselves. I can remember making a few big ones. Occasionally I had to go back to the boss and say I had taken the wrong approach, and several weeks of work would have to be binned. It was the right thing to do, and far from getting sacked or abused I was respected for my honesty and integrity.
Right at the very start the REAL experts told governments that lockdowns and similar measures would not work, and would just cause immense damage. They recommended only isolating the most vulnerable until natural herd immunity developed. It very quickly became apparent that their advice was spot on, and that "2 weeks to flatten the curve" was a very sick joke. But rather than admit they got it terribly wrong, governments have inflicted 2 years of unnecessary suffering upon their populations.
