@ereignisfelder Although productivity was probably rising in both experiments, afaik she DIDN'T specifically mention it in the "no artificial lights, sleep in 2 segments" experiment. She only mentioned the productivity rise in the "live cut-off underground with no natural sunlight, and no clocks for months, control your own lighting, sleep whenever you feel like it, but you never have any idea what the time is" experiment.

@Sharpshooterjoe 8 hours plus 2 hours of natural quiet meditation.

@florencelovme What was it like? i think the avoiding of articificial light would be the hardest part - is this what you found? You'd be sitting in the dark twiddling your thumbs, wishing you could see. A few hours of that, i think anyone would fall asleep.

@LiquidFriction If having no light makes you so smart, you'd think it'd make you smart enough to figure out HOWTO MAKE SOME LIGHTS don't ya think? I mean... if we in the civilized world are so sleep deprived and stupid, why do we run things? Why isn't it instead run by supersmart light-shunners? Kinda a new take on "Yali's Question" perhaps.

@roidroid ah, or if you search for it on google video search, you'll find it (56 dot com seems to have the whole thing streaming in english)

@BelligerentPacifist maybe they meditate on breast reduction, so in the end it somehow all works out?

@mrflibblesthecat try the documentary "Secret Life of Your Body Clock". Very good.

@Yesrly1 reduce your exposure to artificial lighting, especially in the evenings (including back-lit computer monitors unfortunately)

@uniftee If anyone's interested in this topic, i highly recommend checking out a 2009 BBC documentary called: "Secret Life of Your Body Clock" It's very interesting. You could probably find a torrent.

i used to think i was a night person. i changed my work to night shifts, but got really depressed. I still consider myself a night person, but the whole WORKING at night thing just doesn't work out.

@Greeb17 i get what you're sayin. But this isn't her personal project, a 1 man show, no. She's briefly touching on insights gained from the field/study of body rhythms & sleep physiology. Basically, try to look past the limits of this talk (basically just time limits) to the greater work that this is representing. I feel it would be a disservice to say that the field of sleep physiology lacks substance, just because the wondrous insights gained from it can't be described in 4 minutes.

@S0chan you already knew that people without artificial lighting sleep in 2 segments with a meditative state inbetween that produces Prolactin at levels beyond what modern-man typically experiences?
