There's not much point in launching that counter-offensive without adequate AA support, and air support and air strike capabilities which is where those western jet fighters would need to come in. After that, the 120 km of Russian fortifications and trenches would become a 120 km long target zone.

@paulrosa6173 I have to disagree as to what the Ukrainians want. They want peace and reconstruction, but the only way to get there is through victory in this war. In my opinion, there's no such as thing as too much when it comes to making sure Ukraine gets there as soon as possible.

@paulrosa6173 'Reasonable compromise' here means the beginning of a slippery slope. Just how many 'reasonable compromises' might Mr. Putin require were he to be emboldened by attempted appeasement?

An excellent answer by McCarthy. Something tells me they are not going to tell what he said on Kremlin state tv.

@paulrosa6173 One part of the argument is that we should have learned from WW2. Well, obviously we didn't learn enough because we are in a situation somewhat similar to the final years of peace before 1939. Then again, we have learned enough to know that it's better to stand up early than too late. WW2 was something my parents' generation lived through, so it's before my time in that sense. Furthermore, this is very much about the legacy of WW2 on two counts: 1) aggression must not be rewarded, territorial gains through war must not be allowed; and 2) all war crimes and crimes against humanity must be investigated and prosecuted according to international law. Because of this, there is only one permissible outcome in this war, and that is complete Ukrainian victory. Only this will create the circumstances that allow the two points I mentioned to be fully observed. Failure in this regard, will take us back to the pre-WW2 world order and empower any predatory regimes with an established abhorrent civil and human rights record and an expansionist, anti-democratic agenda. That is what they call a 'multipolar world' and it's not something we really want to see emerging from out of this.

@paulrosa6173 Yes, the magnetic pole reversal is something else. As I understand it, nobody exactly knows when it is due to happen, just that it is due to happen. A truly multipolar world isn't a bad idea just as long as it doesn't mean what it means when Putin's Russia is talking about it, namely a world where the UN and international law would matter even less than it currently does.
