  7. An adjunct lecturer is not an academic. An academic is a full time tenured professor who does research, supervises PhD students and brings in the necessary research grants to support all of his activities. Dude, you are overestimating yourself.

  10.  @joat1979  I was paid low because I was a junior high energy physicist at the time, which was many decades ago. My first salary was higher than my Dad's highest income, so I wasn't complaining. I can sense that money is extremely important to you, though, which indicates that you are a very shallow person. ;-)

  17.  @TheDanEdwards  No, it isn't, but if you are learning something real like physics, chemistry, biology, medicine or law, then the money will more or less automatically come. Same in engineering, architecture, nursing and other job categories for qualified people. If you are pursuing Egyptology, however, then you already know that you won't get a job, unless you are one of the five best of your year. That's roughly the number of museum curator jobs that are opening up in the US every year for people who know how to deal with Egyptian artifacts.

  18. I can only judge my own field, physics, but with exception of a few (and I really mean two, three tops) physics YouTubers it's all just nonsense that has nothing to do with physics proper. If you think you are getting an education here, think again.

  19.  @georgeportar9813  There is almost no academic content worth watching here. Most YouTubers are simply full of it. The only real physics you are getting here comes from seminars by folks like Nima Arkani-Hamed and Edward Witten, which will be far too advanced for most.

  20. I have no idea where this "I left academia" wave is coming from. We were 150 students in my first physics lecture in university. The professor had to give that course at least 20 times in his academic life, i.e. he taught on the order of 2000-3000 students and ONE of them had a chance of becoming his replacement. Anybody in university who doesn't understand that academia is NOT the endpoint of the average university education doesn't belong in university. That person can't even count.
