Nobody can deny Hindu civilization is old, however, old does not mean good. Buddhism is an off branch of Hinduism is also correct, however, Buddhism is a much higher level than Hinduism in religion and philosophy sense, it was too difficult for most Indians to understand it so gradually it abandoned by India itself but developed in east Asian countries, China, JP and south east countries. just as in all other civilization, some of them developed expanded grew, some of them disappeared, since all civilization have good parts in them and bad parts in them. the core of Hindu civilization is just survival. no science in it, no logic in it, no progressive force in it, no change in it. Under it, India society had no history, in whole India, there is not a single history book from ancient India but all fairy tales, imagined stories, dreams, nothing accurate in it. so Indian historians need to read history book from ancient China to learn what real happened in India at the time, such as the travel record by Xuanzang, [ɕɥɛ̌n.tsâŋ] (Chinese: 玄奘 ) when he visited India in Tang dynasty, from 629-645 AD. as Karl Marx said: "Indian society has no history at all, at least no known history. What we call its history, is but the history of the successive intruders who founded their empires on the passive basis of that unresisting and unchanging society. The question, therefore, is not whether the English had a right to conquer India, but whether we are to prefer India conquered by the Turk, by the Persian, by the Russian, to India conquered by the Briton."

in human civilization, we praise those culture, religion, philosophy for making human kind more intelligent, promote the culture of human development, whether it is old or not, Christianity came much later than Hinduism, however, it contain more advanced ideology and philosophy in it with wisdom, some of teaching from it still guide us and influenced whole history of the human kind civilization development. therefore, for religion, more important is what in it not how old it is .
Compare to Buddhism, even it was developed from Hinduism however Buddhism contains much advanced ideology than Hinduism, for example, unlike Hinduism promoting caste system, make people stay in different caste from their born, Buddhism believes each human is equal, (as stated in US declare of Independence:" everyone is born equal", that but was at least 1700 yrs - 2300 yrs before it, depends using Christianity or Buddhism to compare), Buddha was not God, he did not claim himself was a God, Buddha is a person with rich in knowledge, and Buddha said everyone could reach the status through learning, this was a revolution to the Hinduism's caste, give poor people hope, let them learn to work to fight to change their life, none of this in Hinduism,
of course as all other religion (civilization or culture), some in of them are good and some of them are bad, for today, people should learn good parts of them and do not just accept bad parts of them, not just because it was old, or it originated in your own country, for the past at least 1000 yrs, Hinduism did not protect India from being invaded by all kind of intruders to occupy India, why not India people raise to resist the invasion and foreign rulers?? no such teaching in Hinduism? what India achieved because of Hinduism?? What Hinduism let India contributed more to the human civilization?? and what are they?? even if this civilization did for the history, what about it now? Can Hinduism lead India into 21st century? can Hinduism transform India and to guide India into a modern developed country?? No evidence for that for the past 1000 years.
Hinduism did more harm than good to India throughout the history and today.
