CCP has set up a stock market in Beijing trying to shift world trade from America. Be interesting to see who lists there. Considering the new Xi policy to share wealth. That is citizens and business's sharing it. Not the state which keeps a huge amount.

  13.  @qinby1182  Just before WW1 Germany was Britains's biggest trading partner. Germany invaded neutral Belgium then Britain declared war on Germany. The parallels with America China Taiwan are striking.

  17. Vietnam has done very well out of the trade war. China's softpower leverage there is diminishing. There is a lot of Chinese investment in Vietnam which side steps the trade embargo's. Would China move that...where to Cambodia?

  18. ASEAN isn't just China. China doesn't speak for the other ASEAN countries. It is this default CCP attitude of we have won, we are in control that alienates other ASEAN countries. Where can the go for help... into the arm of America

  20. Yes historically the area was exploited by colonial powers. Now these countries are independant. So don't be pushed around by another power again. Does China speak for all these nations.. ? Century of humiliation was two centuries ago. A lot has happened then. Two world wars and a cold war. All the countries that took territory from China has left those territories... apart from Russia who proadly shows off their conquored Chinese territories. China appears to have no fear over America...but Russia?

  21.  @andt3316  US mentality hasn't been great. I won't defend such things as Iraq, Afghan even Vietnam. Indeed America does not want to give up the No1 slot. It's the thucydides trap. If China does become the No1 power can it be done without war. I don't think so looking at Taiwan & SCS.

  22.  @andt3316  We can agree to disagree. China will need to take Taiwan by military force if she wants it back. I think China will try in the next eight years. You are correct in America waiting for China to attack first. But I think the first shot to be fired will be Taiwan shooting down a Chinese plane.
