  2. Of course putin didn't have to invade. To claim something like that is just ridiculous! There was no threat to russia from either Ukraine or NATO. Putin just wanted Ukraine into his empire building project.

  3.  @mikewardrop5962  Putin doesn't want peace, he wants Ukraine! Therefore it's ridiculous to talk about restraint, peace deals (there have been over 200 peace talks and putin is just moving the goalpost as they start to get closer to agreement). As I said, he wants Ukraine to build his empire (he has long talked about reestablish the Soviet Union as Great Russia) and control over the Black Sea. So in other words, just the normal russian imperialism!
