There are certainly many more reasons (hundreds I can't think of every factor in the world right now), for instance:
-Many companies - especially small companies - have been overshadowed by companies who bought or created their own chains like Amazon which has built apps like Audible, HelloFresh, and Prime, and many people have flocked to those services as most of them are online and easily accessible. Small businesses have struggled from that, if, forced to survive, and if they don't turn a profit, they would have to file for bankruptcy, so now every worker is out of a job.
-Reputations. Blizzard-Activision, Google, Best Buy, a variety of schools, and so many more companies have reported unstable and hostile work environments when people came forward to share horrible cases I can't even put them in a YouTube comment, or they could be imposing policies or driven by particular agendas that most people are just not into (*cough* Target). Now we have a great variety of companies with the same, if not, better quality tutoring programs, so people may have to quit to start their own business or reach out to another company and do the same work there instead for name's sake.
-Of course, bosses themselves can be judgy and particular; Either for their own image, the principle of hiring them, or by personal taste. For instance, "She doesn't look pretty, I'm not hiring her." "He doesn't look too happy, all our workers are supposed to be happy." "You didn't write that down correctly, it's 'clearly', not 'cleary'." "He has a tattoo, we don't allow that, it ruins our image." "He committed 3 felonies. Should we have someone like that working here?"
-Sales costs are bypassing what wages can afford. It could be companies trying to survive by raising prices, fierce competition amongst companies, or keeping up with market trends.
-Between job hunting, many of us have the illusion that it does feel like a long, waste of time. Of course, it's hard, but the moment you get to that next step, you'll feel you've written the next episode in your Netflix docuseries.
-Should be mentioned, not shaming every job seeker, but perspective, and we could make up reasons. "Our country is losing jobs.", "My boss discriminated against me when I chose to have a baby.", "We don't have the education needed to get a job.", "We don't have time!", etc.
Some of the factors I could contribute to Erin's points are:
1 - Companies are likely collaborating with investors or other partners and making deals that they would have to fulfill an interview quota.
2 - It's most likely driven by peer pressure and social media drove people to quit their jobs. If they were confident in their decision, they would quit, but it could've happened at any other time.
3 - This is regional, but several areas in the world from cities like Portland may charge tax rates higher than outside of the city to entire states like California which pushed laws to raise the minimum wage higher than companies can afford, forcing them to reduce workers.
Any one or several of these reasons mentioned above and more are why jobs aren't hiring right now. Time can be unpredictable and any reason why they aren't hiring should be taken with a grain of salt as it's more often a reflection of the company or recruiter/manager, and time, and showcasing that you have the skills, and you can do those skills. There'll be a match when the time comes around and says, "Hey, you have the job."
