You ask why? Because its Saudi Oil in those tankers, not Iranian oil. This event is a simple show of force for one of two most important waterways in the world. Controlling those waters, can have a rippling effect on markets and business around the globe. What better way to force the US to the table?

@acetate909 the NYTIMES "the best single news source", you are joking right? A biased news source cannot be a single news source, and if you think the NYTIMES is not a biased media outlet, then you are either blind or simply refuse to adhere to the basic ethics and standards of journalism. For example, in this visual investigation piece the writer attempts to portray their personal opinion based on photo and video evidence supplied by government sources. Any basic journalist knows, to never use one single source for photo or video investigative journalism, especially when the source has something to gain by it. By the NYTIMES using the evidance provided to make an investigation, they are, in this instance using their bias to disprove the US governments appeal that the explosive devices could only have been Iranian. Here is the catch to this entire article, there is no geographic evidance, context or direct quote from Iranian forces or from the witnesses on the vessel, to allow any reasonably professional investigator to draw a conclusion. That is fact! Every aspect and point of this visual investigation piece can easily be contradicted or proven false. This piece was more of an opt ed, and it should have been brought to the public in that manner. But since the NYTIMES has an agenda as usual, there source, the writer and the piece in its entirety must be dismissed. Another point, if Iran did not do the bombing, then they must have been complacent in the act by allowing it to occur in there patrolled waters. Secondly, Iran knowing this would have triggered an international event, especially against another Arabian nation, should never have gone near the ship, the explosive device, or removed any said evidance without the consent of the flagged ships sovereignty. These are all basic fundamental tools any dim witted investigator would take into consideration. And finally, is this so called visual investigator a specialist in military grade Iranian seaborne explosives? Or did they consult an explosives expert in Iranian seaborne explosives? The only way this could be investigated properly was an on location independant maritime investigation team, which would have been safe to assume, Iran would not have allowed in their territorial waters. As usual NYTIMES no context, no facts, no science, no comparison data!

@dlxtime2380 Iran cannot simply walk away from sanctions, the companies they wish to do business with will lose access to the US markets and the EU markets. No company will take that chance, so Iran has no control over the sanctions. Look what happen to Huawei and North Korea, no Huawei has lost its US market license and now cannot sell their phones in the US and Google pulled their android license simply for selling phones to North Korea. Iran will not come to the diplomatic table, so they must ensure US sanctions, it's that simple. It's because of stupid evil attacks like those on the oil tankers that constantly puts Iran on the hot seat, and keeps the sanctions in place.

The idea you believe this is some type of setup is mind blowing, but I guess you're not an explosive specialist, a maritime law specialist or a trained accident investigator. Iran historically is an extremely territorial country and government. Due to the constant flow of maritime ships and military naval vessels constantly in the region and direct area of the incident, the Iranian navy patrols those waters very aggressively. Let's say Iran was not the responsible party, let's say it was a rogue faction of some piracy group. As aggressive as the Iranian government is, do you honestly think they would rather admit to the bombing, or admit they were inadequate at protecting vessels within their territorial water responsibilities boundaries? That being said, maybe the Iranian navy didn't do the act of setting the bombs, but they were surely complicit in supplying the device and/or ignoring the party that planted the device. Either way Iran has an unacceptable level of involvement, and this action should be considered an act of war against the Saudi Crown.

@anndeedrich911 you are obviously another blind and mislead progressive. What does the US gain by this event? Nothing. It wasn't there oil, it wasn't bound for the US or exported by the US. The US does now have the ability to impose even more sancti0ns against Iran for an act of war against its allies. This incident also will raise the price of crude oil, because of the fear that Iran will cripple more vessels. Other merchant ships may now avoid the passage delaying food and other goods to the ports, and thus raising the cost of simple products. Iran has pulled these stunts in the past in order to cripple merchant shipping lanes. This isnt the first time they have done this and surely not the last. Nothing happens in Iranian territorial waters without the knowledge of Iranian Navy, so either Iran set the explosives on the ship, or they allowed whoever did to do it. Do you think Iran would allow thenUS or one of its allies to set up a mine to make Iran look guilty? Of course they wouldnt.

It's not just abstracts and resources, 1/3rd of the global commerce runs through that waterway. One hazard to one ship is a hazard to all maritime vessels in the area. Not securing that waterway could cause a severe ripple effect through global markets that could have sever potential hazards to food supplies, resources, materials, goods, etc. Its not just about oil, Iran made it about oil because the blockade and bans imposed on Iran is killing their lucrative oil industry. We cannot sit idly by as one nation, violates international maritime laws and creates a hazardous environment for other sovereign vessels.

Do you understand how ridiculous that statement is? Why would the US want further military action in the region especially with a country that could potentially have some type of nuclear device? With an army 3 times the size of ours? That would bring Russian Federation to the verge of WWIII with the US? You obviously lack critical thinking skills.

As tight as Iranian security is on their waters they either had a hand in it, or knew it was going to happen. Either way they have responsibility in the incident.

@krkayah6213 one thing I know about Iran first hand, is they are very secure and territorial about their waters, especially because of the close shipping lanes that always has a US Navy presence. I have said in this post and others on this same video, that Iran either did with their own naval forces, or they were complicit because nothing ever happens in their waters without them knowing it. When a boat enters their waters, they immediately scramble aircraft and coastal naval forces to intercept the vessel. I have seen it first hand how quickly there forces react. So they did it or knows who did it.

Iran is responsible for the water ways in that region the ship was in, irregardless of what Iran says. They are either the party who did initiate these attacks on a foriegn sovereign ship, or they are complacent in the fact they cannot secure their waterways. Given Iran the opportunity to rebutle their initial comments, due to their inadequacies at patrolling their own waters, I beg to believe they would accept responsibility over the worlds idea they cannot secure their own country and its economic waterways. Either way they are responsible, and action should be taken, period. Now one of these days, maybe, NYTIMES could possibly do a unbiased story, just once.

@acetate909 there isnt any unbiased news sources anymore, and the NYTIMES doesn't employee journalists anymore, they are almost all sub contractors now, blog journalists who sell their stories. 10 years ago CNN, NYTIMES and a few others were close to neutral, not anymore. Now they are all biased to a certain political side which is what propels their story narratives. It should be that way, and their is no excuse for it. Journalists have one primary standard or ethic, and that is to be unbiased and simply report the facts, and they cannot even do that. YouTube content creators like Stephen Crowder are more truthful and unbiased then the NYTIMES and that is just fly by night operation. NYTIMES needs to stop using blog writers and hire true professional journalists.
