  1. The Russian economy depends to a very significant amount on oil and gas. Yes, they export grain, but as anyone can tell you, food is cheap and contributes peanuts to a country's GDP. Try finding a country where agricultural exports make up a relevant portion of the GDP that isn't dirt poor. Russia's economy has very little in terms of high tech, which not only means that we can laugh at them for stealing microcontrollers from washing machines for their rockets, it also means that they have the export economy of a third world country. No wonder China is pretty much treating them like a colony now. They have essentially become China's colony, fully dependent on them.

  7. That's pretty much it. China is the big winner of this war. They now get dirt cheap oil (Ural oil currently goes for about 50 bucks a barrel. For comparison, Brent oil costs around 80) and China is pretty much the only relevant trade partner Russia has left for its oil and gas. And since oil and gas contributes more than 65% of the Russian GDP, that pretty much means China has Russia by the balls.
