To what purpose would it be to have the self-righteous puritanical public allowed to hear or know of every bit of sexual minutiae of who did what to whom, in a trial that could have gone on for a couple of years? The trial would have been salacious from the outset, and the priggish and sanctimonious public turned into obsessed voyeurs, titallated and demanding more heads to roll. An extended, salacious trial would also unleash countless right-wing conspiracy theories about those involved. Just read the comments and see how that works.
