1914-19 was our undoing

Britain wrecked itself fighting wars it couldn’t afford in the first half of the 20th Century America is doing the same thing in this century Col Macgregor Ret

This should be titled How Britain broke Britain or How Britain broke England and the home countries

No mention that after Thatcher-this country was a completely different place socially and culturally And even worse we were even more of a VASSAL STATE IN THE AMERICAN EMPIRE
4
Modernity Which DS seems so fond of
4
The enemy within put our country in its grave during 1914-19 It lays in Flanders fields 😢 Something DS will never admit too
4
@richardruff8712 The real damage was 1914-19 But you are right to say that the country socially and culturally was different after Thatcher We really became a vassal state in The American Empire

The bow wave of 1914-19 is lapping at the shore Peter Hitchens A European war cannot be anything but a cruel, heartrending struggle, which, if we are ever to enjoy the bitter fruits of victory, must demand, perhaps for several years, the whole manhood of the nation, the entire suspension of peaceful industries, and the concentrating to one end of every vital energy in the community….a European war can only end in the ruin of the vanquished and the scarcely less fatal commercial dislocation and the exhaustion of the conquerors. Democracy is more vindictive than Cabinets. The wars of peoples will be more terrible than those of kings.” W S Churchill Your hero cheered us into a catastrophic disaster

DS and those he speaks for are part of the problem too.

The wars of peoples will be more terrible than those of kings.” W S Churchill 1901 Hansard Puts a bloody big hole in the narrative that nobody knew about the consequences of a European War It’s a pity he let he’s war mongering instincts get the the better of him and became one of the chief cheerleaders for war in 1914

Deindustrialising the country is a major reason why government has expanded

The Tory’s and Liberals in the Labour Party took us into the common market knowing that we’d lose our sovereignty
1
The British still think this is the 19th Century Prof Jeffrey Sachs DS exemplifies this mentality as does much of the comments section by the looks of it
1
@OldMusicFan83 The Chinese didn’t come in the middle of the night and steal our manufacturing Our Oligarchs gave them our manufacturing and got even richer than before. And now that same mentality wants us to go to war with China Col Macgregor Ret

Those 3 faces should be changed to Asquith Grey and Churchill followed by those behind the scenes £££ 1914 was the real catastrophe Ps I loath Blair Brown etc etc etc

Daniel Davis Deep Dive too

Britain wrecked itself fighting wars it couldn’t afford in the first half of the 20th century America is doing the same thing this century Col Macgregor Ret I’d also add Col Macgregor doesn’t share DS’s love of Churchill
1
I would agree with much of what you say But I’d add the real catastrophe to this country is 1914-19 Add the failure to invest properly in new infrastructure and technology to compete with Germany pre 1914. Re why Churchill (whom I do not like) left the Conservative Party for the Radical Free Market Imperialist section of the Liberal Party But it was the so called Great War that was the greatest disaster One that Churchill encouraged us to get into Something DS will never admit to

Stop getting involved in foreign wars and stop using the intelligence agencies to destabilise foreign countries And wake up to the fact we are NOT a great power Re trench and come home and stop being a vassal to America
