I don't see how kicking WW3 off then would have been such a bad thing. We just needed to reequip the Germans and they could have been our allies.

@quintrankid8045 Germany definitely would have been up for crushing the Soviets. They certainly understood the threat Russia posed. The USA seemed pretty dimwitted about it. Churchill was aware. So far you'd have to say the players involved made the right call. Because the USSR did collapse. The Cold War never heated up either. Who knows what modern Russia will do someday though. They still seem to have some military aspirations at times.

@quintrankid8045 didn't you pay attention watching this video? All of the Germans were fleeing west. Guess what was to the east?
1
@quintrankid8045 because they lacked food, fuel, weapons and ammunition.
1
@quintrankid8045 don't be dense. No one likes to flee their homeland.
1
@quintrankid8045 they were fleeing the Soviets. They were leaving what was to become East Germany. Germans would continue to flee East Germany for decades to come. Leaving behind everything they knew.
1
@quintrankid8045 no it doesn't. The Germans definitely would have fought on if they had anything to fight with. You cannot fight a modern war without food, fuel, weapons and ammunition though. It is simply not possible. War today is a battle of production. Modern industrialized warfare is another US invention.
1
@quintrankid8045 the fact that they were already fighting with nothing. Resistance in the east was much stiffer than in the west.
1
@quintrankid8045 no one said they put up an effective defense. Because they didn't. They did lose.
1
@quintrankid8045 the Germans were incapable of continuing to fight due to an acute lack of everything needed to wage war. They had no food, no fuel, no weapons, no ammunition, no vehicles, no armor. They had nothing. That is why they lost the war. What they still had was a keen interest in destroying the Soviets though. They lacked any and all means to continue waging war. Will without means is nothing.
1
@quintrankid8045 well let's see they launched the largest invasion in human history for starters. Could be a subtle clue. Then they fought against all odds to destruction. Might be another hint. 50 years on they were pretty happy when the Berlin Wall fell. A little late, but better than never. There was no love lost between the Germans and Russians.
1
@quintrankid8045 my whole point was that we should have joined forces with the Germans to defeat the Soviets. We spent the next 50 years in a Cold War against the Soviets ourselves.
1
@quintrankid8045 you make some pretty bizarre assumptions. No one needed to occupy Russia for example. Well, the Germans would have happily done that.
1
@quintrankid8045 I said the Germans would have occupied Russia.
1
@quintrankid8045 Russia is a big place so there's no need to conquer all of it. Just up to the Urals is sufficient.
1
@quintrankid8045 yeah might just have to kill all of them. Or at least the troublemakers. The Germans killed all of the political officers on sight.
1
@quintrankid8045 when it is us or them I go with us every time.

@quintrankid8045 what you like, and don't like has no bearing on the world at large. No one is going to take your proclivities under advisement either. When others are out to destroy my way of life I've no qualms doing unto others before they do unto me. If you want to roll over that's your business. The reason my country is not a flat democracy is because many voters are morons. Half the people out there are below average intelligence. Our Founding Fathers knew this. So we try to elect some of the brighter folks to make decisions. That are ultimately best for all. Some of those decisions tend to be tough ones too. But that's life. Those who fail to make the tough decisions don't live either. That's death.

@quintrankid8045 Communism threatens all who are not communists. It is the core of their ideology. They must destroy everyone. Read Marx. The Germans were not communists. In fact the Nazis outlawed the communists in Germany. So the next logical step is military invasion. Which is what the USSR was gearing up to do. Until the Germans launched a preemptive strike. Part of the problem was geography. Germany was next to Russia. That closeness made them more of an immediate threat. Countries behind Germany were less concerned. Now if the Germans had done nothing and just let the Russians conquer them I'm sure they'd have become more concerned. BTW a country like the USA is not like France. So our military performance in Russia would be a lot different.

@christophercoupe5006 the trouble with the western Allies is they always have to answer to their populace who are decidedly causality adverse. We don't like having to think about gold star mothers. The Soviets on the other hand had no problem with that sort of thing. Every other person that died in WW2 was a Russian. A German died and a Russian did. Brit, Russian, American, Russian, Japanese, Russian etc. So to say they had the capacity to absorb losses is putting it mildly.
