AMD, I am pleased to report the original Camry-Wagon Venza was a smash hit in Canada. I am tempted to say, there are few things more Canadian than a 2016 Venza with snow tires mounted on sensible 17" steel wheels. We really, Really, REALLY, R-E-A-L-L-Y hope the new Crown Estate comes to our market to fill that space. This 'new' luxury Venza is a good addition to the fleet of Toyota Hybrids but the humble RAV4 beats it on practical measures. I also hope Toyota's upgraded 240 hp 2.5 Hybrid system soon makes its way into the new Venza and RAV4 to give them a bit more pep. In regard to the 5th generation Hybrid system, so far all the reports are very positive but we will all be waiting for YOUR expert observations. Finally, on the subject of the right name, the Japanese market Toyota Harrier could have easily been mistaken for Toyota Hairier and that may just have been too much of a risk π

Yes, Trans Am to Venza is quite the shift in tastes π

@namegoeshere2903 If we do our due diligence and rustproof them, they should be good for 20 years π

The RAV4 wins on practicality and the Venza wins on luxury. Otherwise they are the same CUV.
4
That is a great color.
4
They may first be dragged kicking and screaming through the class action lawsuits but sooner or later Toyota will find it is in their own interests to fix it.
4
Yes, that was a silly design decision.
3
@oriondragos5876 Amen!

That 'Blueprint' is a very rich, deep colour that would not be out of place on a limousine. I agree about the eccentric rear lights.
3
Bring back the Prius V!!!!!!!
2
As long as you don't mind the tighter interior, why not?
2
@powerguymark An annual visit to KROWN has kept my 2005 rust-free through 17 very salty Ontario winters. There may be other products that work just as well.
2
Yes, the original was much more distinct and filled a market segment for Toyota.
2
Yes, this is a confounding message from Toyota because the Venza shares its platform and drivetrain with the RAV4 Hybrid which has a 1,750 pound tow rating. If Toyota won't permit you to tow with your Venza, buy a RAV4 Hybrid instead. Alex on Autos Youtube Channel did two detailed videos with the RAV4 Hybrid which showed it tows very well.
2
I am a big fan of the Highlander. This Venza is built on the RAV4 platform and shares the identical wheelbase.
2
It is harder and harder to find any current Toyota that accepts tall drivers and passengers.
2
Yes it is the Harrier.
2
No way. We are short on good mechanics and we can't afford to lose another one.
2
Yes, the original, generously sized Venza was very well received up here in Canada. The current RAV4 is already smaller inside than earlier generations. The idea of making the luxury versions - Venza and Lexus NX even smaller is absurd.
2
The oversized D Pillar in the first Venza was a big mistake. The 19" and 20" rims excessive. I get a kick every time I see a Venza with snow tires mounted on 17" rims.
2
If Toyota sends over one of those new Crown CUVs, you might find something in just the right size.
2
Happy trails and good luck with those Continental tires, I would put up with a bit more noise and choose Michelin Defenders .
1
The original Lexus RX was a Harrier with a different badge. Today they are built on different platforms. This Venza (Harrier)shares the identical platform with RAV4 and Lexus NX .
1
The Lexus models have around 20 hp more but are expected to use Premium fuel.
1
The base model avoids the touchscreen issues.
1
Yes, the first Venza was a raised and slightly inflated Camry wagon. That is the precise reason it sales were moderate across the USA and so successful in Canada. Up here its sales equaled Highlander so Toyota added had an extra model year after it was discontinued Stateside. Like virtually every Toyota built in the TNGA era, the new Venza is lacking in head room and leg room. Worst of all, the new Prius and Crown show the shrinking trend is continuing even though every major competitor is increasing interior volume. How long can Toyota afford to lose the space race?
1
Hopefully the models under consideration are readily available to test drive. A weekend rental would be a good way of assessing the potential purchase.
1
@grumpygrumpgrump136 They added length to the body panels not the wheelbase. The interior is appreciably smaller than the RAV4. Given Toyota's current confusion about interior accommodation, it would not surprise me if the more expensive NX was the smallest of the trio.

1
Much smaller, it shares the exact platform/wheelbase with the RAV4 and Lexus NX.
1
I concur.
1
Another excellent comment. Thank you!
1
I expect we will get one early in the new year.
1
Venza, RAV4 and NX are built on the same platform with the same wheelbase. They are separated by exterior styling, price, feature content and powertrain options.
1
I think they named it Venza because Harrier could be so easily misinterpreted as hairier. π
1
Agreed!
1
We would like something like a Land Cruiser 70 Series over hereπ
1
Toyota forgot people grow over 6 feet tall when they built the TNGA generation vehicles. Very sadly, the new Crown and Prius just continue the trend of deficient headroom.
1
This has been sold as a Toyota Harrier in Japan for years.
1
@jimbob4456 Interestingly, the current Prius is their most fuel efficient car and it has more front seat headroom than a RAV4. Naturally, they have dropped headroom severely with the new one to make it look 'cooler'.
1
My guess is the Crown will appear on this channel around February.
1
It is synthetic leather. No cows were harmed in its production but a few dinosaurs no longer rest in peace.
1
Thanks for sharing the facts with us. Research and patience are key factors in any car search. I have one question I put to all plug in Hybrid drivers - Do you have any concerns about the gasoline in the tank going stale? Modern gas does not store well and fuel stabilizer cannot completely overcome the tendency for ethanol to deteriorate. How do you make sure the gas is still fresh while maximizing the electric powertrain benefits?

@laura-ann.0726 π
1
Not to be confused with the famous Toyota Hairier.........
1
I wish we just had one generation of shrunken TNGA interiors but the new Prius and Crown have accelerated the trend.
1
This Ontario guy thinks too many Americans and Canadians would call it the Toyota Hairier if they tried to keep the same name. :-)
1
Yes, they sacrificed a lot of cargo space for the sake of sleeker looks.
1
I like the Venza but the RAV4 is so much more practical for carrying cargo. The RAV4 Hybrid also has a decent tow rating of 1,750 lbs which will easily handle a small boat or utility trailer.
1
Expect to see one in his shop in the new year.
1
Just make sure you fit in the Crown. Despite the Crown's premium status, some dimensions are smaller than the Camry.
1
We can always hope Toyota listens to our pleas.
1
@eleanormassaro5195 That's the name they gave it. I would call it Indigo.
1
If you are 6 feet or taller, triple check to be sure you fit. Toyota seems to have forgotten about taller drivers and passengers in their current generation of cars.
1
It is the Toyota Harrier with a different name badge attached.
