AMD, Those of us who live and drive in the real world compare the quality of Toyotas to other car brands. Other people compare Toyotas to perfection. If people can find a better brand, PLEASE go and buy it as that will cut waiting lists for today's 'lower quality' Toyota cars. π Many other automakers have 'high quality' inventory piling up at their dealerships and I am sure they will be happy to take your money. π In regard to Toyota pricing, in the good old days of 1999 a top trim Camry with 194 hp cost $25,000. With inflation that translates to over $47,000. A quarter century ago you had to pay a little extra for Toyota quality and the same holds true today. The 1999 price also makes today's 225 hp Camry LE priced around $29K seem like a bargain.

We will be waiting.

What engine does your Hilux have? I have a 2005 Toyota Matrix disguised as a Pontiac Vibe. I ordered it without power windows or locks but they all came with power windows, should I be worried?

If Acura had bothered to sell that TSX in Canada where wagons are in demand, we would have rustproofed it enthusiastically.

Japan and the USA.

The lifestyle pickup trend and loose tax deduction rules have warped the truck market, I hope some day pickup trucks become trucks again.

Good luck with your new Camry LE! In regard to pricing, there are several examples where base models are as affordable today as they were in decades past. I think the pricing of high end models like TRD Pro Tacomas etc. tends to obscure broader trends. In general, Toyota pricing has been at the higher end of mainstream brands for decades. That makes perfect sense because they are building the best mainstream cars.

May I ask why you are getting rid of your RAV4?

The Truck King Youtube channel just did a video about your dream truck. It exists pretty much as you describe it but it can only be driven in mines.

A friend at work had a Sienna of a similar vintage and he was very happy with it. Just for fun I checked the pricing of the base Sienna in 2006 and learned that $24,190 = $37, 833 today. The top sec XLE was $36,445 or $57,000 in today's money.

Hello from Canada, I really try not to be jealous of other people's vehicles but you have the best Toyota pickup in the world. I rate your truck above the 79 Series because it has a larger bed and Toyota's best engine. We had the 2TR-FE in our Tacoma for many years but now it is gone. Enjoy your Workmate mate.

I prefer manual. Luckily my 2005 1ZZ-FE engine and 5 speed manual are bolted to a car which seems like it has plenty of life left in it. As Toyota sells so few manuals today, I suspect a RAV4 Hybrid would be the car I would choose if I was buying new. With a Hybrid you have the added engagement of trying to keep it running on electricity as long as possible.

Your remarks lead to two main conclusions: 1) With the aid of an inflation calculator, compare current Toyota prices to prices from 2014, 2004 and 1994. This will quickly reveal that many Toyota models are as affordable/unaffordable as they were in the past. 2) Never read the Youtube Comments section. π

Β @RealistickΒ What 'other factors' are you referring to? In regard to comparing Toyota to other brands, that is a whole other question.

Scotty Who?

The average age of a new car buyer is around 60. Generally speaking, young people cannot afford any brand.

Exactly.

My Toyota was made in California and has been brilliant for 20 years. The differences in quality from different production sites are microscopic. For the record, I was sorry to hear your whole car industry was shut down.
1
They are just trying to please the 5'5" Akio Toyoda.

Agreed, I ordered my car in 2005 without power windows and locks because I intended to keep it 20 years and did not want to run the risk of extra repairs. 19 and a half years later I have not spent a penny fixing my windows or locks.

Thanks for sharing your story. It was a terrible, terrible idea for Toyota allow any French automaker to build vehicles with the Toyota name.

Well said!

I will only consider adding Android Auto or Car Play to my 2005 (without power windows or locks) if I first cave in and by a cell phone.
